Interesting choice t go for f/25 and 1" exposure. You would expect to see quite a bit of diffraction at this aperture, and at 1" you tripod had better be a sturdy one. I also don't see why you would need the larger DoF, especially in a case like this where you could have the subject perfectly in the plane of focus.
The result is a good picture, maybe with too harsh shadows for my liking (as soon as you invite people to comment you are bound to get conflicting responses all the time!), but a nice contrast between the softness of the feather (hardened by the contrast) and the hardness of the broken shells (?).

Nice use of the rocks and plant leaf to add a variety of textures. I personally would like to see the shadows a bit darker but that is more of a personal preference.

Chockablock with varied textures. I like the diagonal sweep of the feather across the image. Thank you for the link to the blog - beautiful photos. It must be great to have a group of friends with the same interests to go and explore with.

They do indeed look like different textures because our brain can't reconcile the difference in shadow direction. Good ides. Nice twist.
