10 Days Oldby dizneewenchComment by Jutilda: I love the idea of this, the ten fingers and the ten days old but I wish we were more on the same plane as the bird instead of looking down on him. The crop seems a tad tight. With the right lighting and a dark background, I think it might have been more impactful. Hope this is helpful. ;~D |

Black Blossomsby dizneewenchComment by posthumous: picture perfect act of communication through ruthlessly efficient composition, but also a great performance by the right hand. 8 |

July Wondersby dizneewenchComment by srbrubaker: By a number of normal photographic metrics this is a not a good photo; everything is blurry except a wrinkle in a tee shirt. The photo is suffused with a wierd and ugly otherworldly aqua glow. The subject, fireworks take up less than a third of the shot. It is strange in a very surreal way. And that surreal strangeness appeals to me. |

James Origamiby dizneewenchComment by atupdate: The shallow depth of field is hurting this image considerably. I like that you carried the Japanese theme into the background of the image; however, a tighter crop to eliminate the basic green-blue areas in the back corners would help the overall composition. |

Alone In The Alleyby dizneewenchComment by mpeters: Hi from the Critique Club.
Please feel free to PM me with any comments or questions.
First impression: You have captured a good sense of motion in this pic. The colors on the RH side are striking.
Technicals: Considering the inherent difficulties with the zooming technique to achieve motion, you did an admirable job. Overall the picture seems a bit underexposed, but again, the night is not the easiest time to photography. I wonder if a slight bump in levels would have made the image pop. Your zoom lines are nice and clean so you did an excellent job of holding the camera steady.
Composition: I like the placement of the girls hat right in front of the light area in the BG. It really makes her stand out. An aggressive tilt would have been interesting although I find that the diagonal streaks provide a nice dynamic feel to the picture.
The Challenge Results: Not sure I can give you any advice as to what would have made this photo score well except to say that the DPC voter prefers more sharply focused subjects, even those in a motion blur challengeÆ’Ă‚Âº. Overall, I think you did a fine job of visualizing, composing, and taking this pic. A few post processing tweaks might have bumped your score but cant say for sure.
Keep shooting,
mark

James Origamiby dizneewenchComment by LN13: To my eye, I'm not sure if the point of focus should be the paper crane or the paper with the writing on th right. It just seems too busy. |
