Over My Headby boxImmortalComment by MilesW: Like the idea - a tad more light on the model's left hand side perhaps, just to lift the shadows a bit? |

Can You Hear The Ocean?by boxImmortalComment by jdannels: Amy, thanks for my on the beach entry and I thought i would return the comment. I think this is a good beach shot but i think I would have liked to have seen more beach and not sucha tight crop. Maybe a wider shot with the shell not placed so directly in the middle of the photo. Also I know you didn't have access to photoshop but the size of your photo file is really small 35 kb, but having your file closer to the 150 kb max would have helped abit. Just some suggestions, and thanks for your comment, joe. |

Can You Hear The Ocean?by boxImmortalComment by Makka: * Greetings from the Critique Club *
Hi Amy. It was fortunate that you were on vacation at the beach when this challenge came up and you chose a great subject for it.
Two things come to mind as to how this photo could of been improved upon and both have been mentioned in previous comments. Framing is important and placing the lovely shell smack in the middle of the shot probably hurt your score quite a bit. I know it's filling the frame but maybe if you had of pulled it back a tad and used the rule of thirds to compose it to add a bit of impact to it.
I understand that by your comment you didn't really have access to proper editing software. This is a real shame as the top half of the photo really needed some cleaning up. There's some serious noise and artifacts around the shell and the ocean which no doubt would of affected votes too.
I really love the colours you've captured and they really stand out well. Considering it looks like you've shot in full sunlight I wouldn't be too concerned about the few blown highlights on the front of the shell. You've kept them pretty well under control. You've also got some wonderfully crisp focus on the shell too.
All up, well done on your 2nd entry. It scored well and placed well. You should be proud. Best of luck in future challenges.

Can You Hear The Ocean?by boxImmortalComment by jah_luv: Great job! I see a bit of graininess in the sky and water, and around the edge of the shell. Although this is a very nicely executed shot, and the colors are extraordinary, I'm knocking it lower than I wanted to because of the artifacting. You did meet the challenge perfectly however, as some people seem to think that because they have a water or shoreline pic, that it equates to a beach theme. In my eyes, they do not. However, yours is truly meeting the theme, which I appreciate the most. |
