i am also very amatuer...but I'll critique like you asked. I think your image would be more balanced with less of the water showing. I would crop to have only one of the houses in view--either way. it is a lovely capture of this beautiful bird ! Carry on...

The doves in this shot seem to glow. So white. You did a nice job of exposing this image. Tricky to get decent shots midday without really harsh shadows, but you pulled it off here. One thing you might consider is an alternate crop/composition by positioning the doves in the upper right thirds grid, or lower right thirds grid (they seem a bit too centered). Use the angle of the roof as a leading line.
