Comment by bassbone:
excellent composition but the softness of the focus on the pier really brings down the image - i see that the water is smooth and this works well, but the pier really needs to be tack sharp

I rather like the simple light and dark symbolism in this photo.

Hi from the critique club

I am not trying to be unpolite or to bash your photo with my critique.
With checking the box that you wanted a critue you asked for honnesty and that is what I am trying to give. Please dont be offended by my comments, it is all just to try and help you.

Ok first thing I noticed was the crop, you could have gone more towards the face or get a bit more space between you and the model. The way the crop is now she looks like she is cut in half, and I dont see any pose.
Her arm and hands are not in the photo so I dont see what she is supposed to be doing.
Try to get what you want to "say" into the frame, everything else is clutter :)
So if you tried to capture her attitude and you need the pose for that, then put a few steps back and get the pose in your photo. If it is the expression on the face that you want so show, step in, make a pic of her face.

2nd thing I noticed was the background. Not your fault as you where on a lighting workshop, but on my monitor I can see even the stiches in the cloth behind her and on the left side I see a big wrinkle.
As this was an advanced editing challenge you could have shopped that out.

3rd thing I noticed is that it is black and white, and black and white in most voters view is not duotone. It is, but it is not, you know what I mean? If the voters expect duotone, then b/w wont do it for them.

All in all not a bad picture but it could have been better and I hope I pointed out what I would have done. Believe me, I am only one person and I dont know everything, so see it as it is. I'ts one persons view.

And as alway's, if YOU are happy with the photo then it is OK, you cant please everybody.

it is perhaps a low key photo, but I don't see much of a low key in the attitude :). Nice shot, just the cropping bothers me a litle bit.

Comment by Melethia:
You've got a good model with great attitude here! Light is a bit harsh - probably need to compensate for the dark background if you let the camera figure an average exposure. A little less exposure would also fade out the background a bit more, too. Good pose, great eyes!

Comment by DistantColours:
The yellow flower is much brighter than the red. I think the bottom red flower should have been wholly in the frame - perhaps with a portrait crop.
