Through a Glass Darklyby raishComment by Neuferland: Greetings from the Critique Club!
An interesting shot, it really is and I can see the potential here. I like the composition of the shot, though I'm for some reason thinking the ball should be on the other side of the shot, used to things running left to right but this works well.
Don't really understand the title, get the Through the Glass part and the Darkly I'm guessing is the feel of the shot or through a dark glass to a darker world? Not really sure about that but Title is only a small part but it can play in your score in the end.
I'm going to bet, without even looking at the other comments you got hit with comments about the noise in the picture. Hang on, let me check.......yep I was right. And I found out about the title. I can't add much to what wavelength said about the settings on your camera. But if you were going for noise on purpose he is correct in that it works much better in black and white than in color. I also agree with the comment about the reflection in the ball, better focus on that would really make this shot stand out a bit more.
I hope my comments help and Good Luck In Future Challenges!

Sundanceby raishComment by malmac55: I could not see the point in this until I read Judi's comment. Once you see the insects in focus it makes sense, but as you say yourself, it is a pity you did not have a tripod. Good luck. |

Ghost Writers on the Stormby raishComment by atupdate: Nice concept but the fact that the hand isn't grasping the pen hurts the execution of the concept. I would also try a slightly different angle to eliminate the empty sleeve in the mirror. |

Through a Glass Darklyby raishComment by wavelength: one might wonder why in the world you chose to make this sooooo dark. your settings seem counter intuitive, f/25 and 1/1000th to lower the light, and yet placing iso1600 on to raise the light.. which in effect only raised the noise levels. I think you could have created something using this that still represented the idea, yet did not throw away all sense of proper exposure.
After looking about on the internet, the only thing I could think of was that you were trying to add noise to simulate the film grain of the Bergman film? In that case, black and white may have been in order.
Unfortunately, very obscure references don't really translate to the 2 seconds per vote crowd. |
