Great capture , i love shooting spiders as well, know how hard they are to capture. Troyuble is no one like them, not as cute as other animals,so dont score as high if they are entered , but thats how it goes, some fine water spray, or talcum powder can be used to get a web to show as well.

Really, as a flower macro, this is severely lacking. DOF is entirely too short for this frontal facing type of macro. Central crop just leave it really flat. You need to work on your manual focus for flower macro shots. Even your 6+ entry with the orange flower seems a bit blurry to me. Clarity is everything in macros. If you were going for an abstract, that would be different. This is not that. Use late evening or early morning light to get great backlight effects and side lighting to bring out texture.

I assume you're using the Sigma 70-300? I don't think you have another macro lens. It's extremely difficult to get a really good DOF on that lens. I use it for some things, but only if I want to highlight a specific feature. Generally I set the shutter to about 320, and hope for the best with aperture. If you really want a great macro lens, a 50 or 100mm macro is in order. The sigma 105 is right up there with the Canon 100 macro. If you're going to be using this for a while, you might want to use a tripod to get yourself up to f/22 and above. BTW, that lens is a bit sharper at 200mm than 300.

You have some other great pictures, but I think this is one area where you really need to go in depth and study what makes macro's and flower shots really work. I'd suggest Ursula and Dax's portfolios for some great examples.

This one isn't too awe inpiring to me. Maybe it's just the size, but I can't find anything to grab my attention here. The path leads off and up, and then you're just left to wander here, then the trees sort of lead you up and out of the picture. Ultimate effect, this all happens in half a second, someone takes a glance and then looks away without knowing why you brought them here.
