This was taken when my son was 3 weeks old. He was born 16 weeks premature. He is 5 now and doing well. Look in my portfolio for newer pics of him.

Elvis you and Crystal are amazing!!!! Billy and I didn't have premies, but our 2nd daughter had the cord around her neck twice, dislocated her shoulder and had an ap score of 1 when she was born. That was terrifying for us. I can only imagine everything you guys had to go through. Our Harley is a strong healthy 8 year old today. It's great to know Odin is doing great also.

This shot brings back that whole experience. We saw lots of babies about this size, many with nobody coming to visit them. It was a very emotional thing to go through. What really amazed me was the success rate the NICU had with so many of these early premies.

We were fortunate to have as short a stay in the NICU as we did. Here is a shot I took of our daughter Maddie when she was 6 days old:

Wow, that brings back memories. My son Cy was born 13 weeks early and had additional problems as well as being a premature baby. He came home at 4 months, oxygen for almost a year, gavage fed for 8 months and apnia monitors for a year, his wieght was a little over a pound. Now he is 14, 5 foot 11 inches and none of the things they said would be wrong have come to pass. He is healthy happy and one of the real joy's of my life. There are a few pic's of him in my portfolio and one here a free study just a short while ago,
Good luck to you and just know one thing which I am sure you do already it is all so worth it!

Hi, this image made me cry, it's decribes so well all the things that go on when these things happen. My sister had a boy 16 weeks premature as well, he waight only 700 gramms and we were told he would not survive the night. Well he'll be 7 in febuary and he's doing so good! My sister was only 17 when she had him, they had to stay in the hospital for 3 months and during that time she and her boyfriend lost two of they best friends in car accidents. They are the stongest people i know and i love them so :) Any way here's a recent picture of Jón Karl (born only 700 gr)and his 10 month old brother Tristan Freyr.

I never saw this before. It literally made me cry... I had a CF child, he's fine now, but I know a bit about worrying myself to death over a child. God bless you, and I hope he's doing well!

You really have to wonder how on earth these babies born too soon live in the artificial wombs of all the needles and machines. I wish something could be invented to simulate the womb without all the pain and side effects of being hooked up like this.

It's a miracle your boy or any other child born this early makes it...let alone thrives. My babies were carried 42 weeks and 2 of them were over 10+ lbs. I certainly can't relate to having a preemie, but it certainly must be stressful and a fragile time in your life.

Glad you decided to share this vulnerable moment.

I gotta say, tears welled up big time when I saw this pic. I didn't even have to read the story behind it to get this emotion. My first son was born a month ago. Healthy child indeed and not a problem to even mention. I would not even want to begin to imagine your feelings at the time that pic was taken. Odd thing is, several months ago I wouldn't have given this shot a second look. Amazing what a new life will do a man's selfishness.

So glad to know your son is doing great now.

Amazing pic. We hope all is well with this little one. My wife donated milk to a milk bank after our second child was born. She gave over 5 gallons (crazy huh) and it went to babies like these to help get them through their first months of life. Powerful shot, perfect lighting and great detail. You just cant help but get choked up over pics and circumstances like these. Our prayers are with this little one.
