I shot this scene handheld with a single 100w light source from above with a cone of white paper around the bulb housing to allow for focusing of light on the subject without illuminating my black background. There were so many interesting sections of this ashtray, I found that floating around it snapping off shots from about 8" away with my Sigma 28-70mm 2.8 set to around 60mm allowed me to capture more of what the scene had to offer as opposed to shooting a staged tripod set up.
