Hi Josh, Strong focused light intensity such as the rays coming through the blinds or the crack of a door should work well. The sun is a free professional light source. Just control it as you would a hot lamp with barn doors. Also, your subject should have a fairly hard surface. If you can add a bit of smoke or shake an old duster just before you shoot, this will enhance the visibility of rays in the flare and the main light source itself, as was done in this shot.
All my best,

I'm skeptical that it wasn't a Photoshop lens flare.

Brendan, I can assure you that it is an in camera flare. but hey, if you do have a PS filter that can achieve a 16+ point at a 3D angle I'd love to get my hands on it. If you have any doubts about my ability you may view some of my other work. //www.mindandmachine.com Personally I would never use a PS lens flare in a photograph. I realize some may have done this in the past. If you still have doubts I would be more than happy to give you the RAW Canon D60 file of this shot.
With that said..."sigh" I would like to thank you all for the votes and the very warm welcome you have greeted me with on my first post. I look forward to more challenges.
Best Reguards,
