Hi Michael, my name is Kari and from the critique club.

Your first submission and I get to critique ... I hope we both survive well.

First Impression - the most important one:
Bloody hell (cuse language if it offends) this is totally macro .. I am yet to master this art!

Composition:
This works well .. the leaf leads the eye to the bug ... and the left third is almost empty space for the eye to lay on the ladybug .. I really like this. Size wise you also did great .. so often new people don't realise how to resize for the challenge ... well done.

Subject:
OK .. here it is .. others have seen and I have to .. the does not meet the challenge .. but hey who says the portrait has to be HUMAN! .. you got some people thinking outside the square ... that is a good thing. Other people we just need to be paitient with till they catch up.

Technical (Colour and light):
Lovely and well done .. good use of flash ... haveyou thought abdout getting neat image .. or something like that to help with the grian in the pic ... there is freeware somewhere out there.

To grow its vote?:
take a shot of a man on the streat and enter than ... but nah to tell you the truth just take a look at the diverse entries and know that you did ok.

Summary:
Great work .. I can see some awesome stuff to come out of you in future.

This is an interesting angle and I think that it does fit an interpretation of the challenge. One thing that you and I both realized quickly is that if you are thinking that some people may question whether an image fits into a challenge, you're right ... there will always be people that don't give you the benefit of the doubt.
This is one of mine that was arguable.

Nice conveyance of failure, but the focus seems to be off just a little. It looks like the grass is more in focus that the dead bird. Nice capture and pretty good composition. I would like to see the rest of that toe at the bottom of the frame.
