i love the picture. is this your Mustang? However to me the steering wheel is focus of attention, not the shifter.

The center of focus for the picture to me is the steering wheel, had to look at your title to know you were wanting it to be the gear shift, but there is not enough in the gear shift to make it stand out to be the center of focus. Beautiful car and photo besides that though.

there is no subject in this photo (unless it's the shadow). everything I think might be is partially cropped out of the shot.

I like the starkness of the colors and the shadow - the long format composition supports that well. I wish the very edge of the palm fronds weren't cut off - or maybe they should be cropped a little more.
