yes it is amazing how the darkness of this image makes it just about sinister or as you say he looks threatened ..
like i'm wondering wots behind him making him run away ..
the legs of the ppl are much less distinct in this version, and it looks like he might be threatened by not only wots behind him but wots in front as well ..
in the colour version i'm focused on him and wot he's running towards with no thought of wots behind him ..
of course its his mum in her role as the photographer, and that can be a scarey thing as well .. lol lol .. .. and thats mainly an observation of how ppl react to me, rather than any comment on you personally !!!.. :):)

Besides the blurred bottom working very well pulling us right into those baby eyes the diagonal really adds even more excitement to this shot.

For me, too, this reflects how I see onions most of the time, all teary eyed and blurry. Nice find capturing real life by mistake.

The terminology we all use is so strange, yet it's so easily glossed over. "Multiplied his face a little". Well of course you did, that's what you do with overexposed areas. But multiplying a face? No non-photographer would have any idea what we were talking about, and it doesn't sound very pleasant. Takes the objectification of artistic subjects to a different, a somewhat hidden, level. Oh, about the image: The blur here, and overall feel, work well for me; striking in a very calm, natural sort of way.

This is awesome. The thumb totally captivated me, and when it opened up, it was not a disappointment. I love the effect of that blur at the bottom. It adds a touch of dreamy drama.
