Comment by S_Lanterman:
Very well composed, and not overly staged (or over sharpened, over saturated, etc. like so many others)

"Chess Table, White to Move" is a very cool entry into the Furniture challenge. I have no idea how to play chess so I am not sure where white would be headed. I think you have an awesome concept here. I think it was probably more out of the box then most voters like, which probably results in the not so hot score. But I say make the photo that makes you happy, and I would be proud of this one.

Technically the shot looks good, our lighting is well balanced and our focus is nice and crisp. I think the angle has to grab the viewers eye because it is just not normal. I think it was cool that our perspective is altered since the subject is kind of off the wall to start with. The composition looks good, I would be curious to see the shot with the sky cropped out in comparison to left in. The image might look to confusing if you cropped out the sky.

Overall great job thinking outside the box and defiantly keep it up, this is one of the more creative ones in the challenge.

I am no photo expert so my comments are based on how I feel about you picture, I hope they are usefull.

I smiled when I first saw this image, so it had the right effect :) Couple of things that I think make this image not as good as it could be are; the snow looks a little gray on my monitor and the crop at the right hand side is a little tight. So it overall - for me - seems to be a sullen image when I think it should be happy and colourfull. Hope this helps.

Don, I'm shocked. I thought this was a very nice shot. I know what your problem was. You committed a mortal sin and tried to make people think without giving them their instant gratification. The idea is great and the tilt really adds to it. This should have scored far higher than it did.

Had to look this up since I had no idea what/who Atropos was. Now I understand your photo. I do wish his face was in focus though.

Comment by magnus:
Excellent use of color and selective sharpness (did you blur the background or is that natural? Either way it looks great!). But a bit too much foreground, I'd sacrifice the two geese in the lower left corner and crop just below the third one. Or get radical and loose them all and go for the panoramic look, since the hanger and background works all by itself.
