I really don't want to beat you down any further. As you know, the DNMC didn't help you as there is no real sense of framing. The use of flash here left the image flat while blowing out his belly and the hot spot in the foreground. If you were to reshoot it to try to get the technicals right, and the frog was being still and cooperative; tripod mount your camera and use a longer shutter speed rather than the flash. This would help with the flatness and lack of pop.
