World's Fair Pavilionby trevytrevComment by tnun: Just a drive by shooting? So much there. Before I read Ecce Signum's suggestion, I was wondering how it would look if you cropped out some of the sky..., but my compositional muse wants to stretch the whole thing laterally and compress vertically, though the muse offers no hints as to how to do that. I'm not sure I'd want to lose anything here as it is all interesting and wonderfully contrasty, geometric and billowy. |

Inconsolableby trevytrevComment by krnodil: Ah yeah, this has more impact close-in. I'm going to drive you nuts with all these suggestions, but now I challenge you to get a slightly more oblique angle (as opposed to the head-on shot here) - where the lens would appear to look in towards the space created by the intersection of the angel's head and flung out arm (so I guess that would mean you would stand at a bit of angle to the left of the statue) - just see if that changes the emotive impact. Of course it would be immensely helpful if you were 10 feet tall and could get a more eye level view of this cemetery stone :O
As for the art of the oblique angle, this is an interesting guy to know about. |

An Inconsolable Angelby trevytrevComment by krnodil: What an emotive sculpture in that grieving angel - texture makes it appear to be snowing, and complements the idea of the cold and bereft. I do wonder though, if the power of this sculpture would be better served with a different composition - I'm not sure what, perhaps a closer view? - with the present composition, it has the expansiveness of a typical landscape image, so my eye travels lightly everywhere in the shot, and I might not have noticed the angel had I not read your photographer comments. Obviously it's there in the title too, but if this shot had no title, would your intent have come across? |

World's Fair Pavilionby trevytrevComment by Ecce_Signum: More a sky shot than the Title suggests and am inclined to crop to just below the pavillion and have the sky become the image with the pavillion anchor it. |
