This rocks! You were right to choose the image with the person in it. The person makes this shot. I took a similar shot last year. I was trying to photograph a tunnel, when suddenly a guy walking his dogs entered into the frame. It turned out to be the best photo of the whole series. Like you said, having a person in the frame gives the photo life.

***greetings from the critique club***

(I'm writing these comments before reading the score and the other comments.)

I find the image quite interesting and reasonably well done. I don't, however, find it that compelling and would have given it a 5 in the challenge. I'll explain why.

For an image to appeal to me, I need a number of factors to work in coordination. The first is theme. The second is content, and the third is technique. Of course, there is a clear overlap between these factors, they can be discussed independantly.

The challenge theme is fantasy. Beyond your title, I can't see much evidence of that, sorry. I see well-carved engravings which might be enstrued as fantastic, or as magical instructions. I can't see, however, any evidence that they should be. A single element photograph requires that element to be very strong. Your subject is strong but not strong enough to win at DPC, I fear. If the engravings had some encodable text, you would find some audience.

The contents of the photo are the most important aspect of photography, an understatement perhaps. What do you have in this frame?

You have a light reflection at the top, a tomb (?) inscription running from left top to bottom, an amber brick section on the bottom right and a shadow cutting into the tomb.

How do these elements combine? I like the intersection of the shadows on the stone. They add a mystique. The black section on the right is very large. I wonder if it helps the photo?

Overall, the technique is good, but the subject and elements are not that special. I'd give the photo a solid 5.

Excellent poet-processing work here. I love the muted colors and the dark contrast.
