This is an interesting looking plant. I like the vicious looking thorns guarding the plant's leaves. The spots look like sugar sprinkles, so the leaves must be ready to eat, right off the plant LOL.
I look fwd to seeing more from your new 180. That focal length is great for macro. I have an old manual focus 180 and use it with an extension tube for macro. It's great to be able to get shots like this without having to be right up on the object, and the shallow DOF makes for sweet bokeh.

The strong ripple pattern is beautiful. Great capture overall. My only suggestion would be to crop away some of the left and bottom so that the ball is sitting closer to the corner. I'm not sure if doing this would take away too much of the ripple effect however.

hey shez .. i'm sorry this didnt do better for you .. there were some amazing entries in this challenge .. well i looked at the first six or seven !! .. i personally reckon this is a brilliant image .. the colours are amazing .. its a definite wow from me .. :) .. i'm not going to look at the photographs that beat you or i might get angry at the silly voters .. !! ..
10 minutes later ... well i couldnt help myself .. i had a look ... up to 50th place .. the voters seem to have got it wrong again .. !! ... :)
