spider blending inby striveComment by macrothing: I tried to find out the correct name/species for this weevil but it is very difficult. The closest I found is Orthorhinus cylindrirostris (elephant weevil) on the CSIRO Entomology website.
Yours is certainly a good shot of this weevil, but being unable to clearly see the bottom of the legs makes it difficult to identify if it is the same species. Here is an excerpt for those interested:
"Curculionidae is the largest beetle family in Australia and members are commonly known as weevils. Weevils are recognisable by having an elongated snout called a rostrum with their mouthparts contained at the end. This rostrum is thought to have evolved as a means of boring into plant tissues to create an egg cavity." |
