I tried to find out the correct name/species for this weevil but it is very difficult. The closest I found is Orthorhinus cylindrirostris (elephant weevil) on the CSIRO Entomology website.
Yours is certainly a good shot of this weevil, but being unable to clearly see the bottom of the legs makes it difficult to identify if it is the same species. Here is an excerpt for those interested:
"Curculionidae is the largest beetle family in Australia and members are commonly known as weevils. Weevils are recognisable by having an elongated snout called a rostrum with their mouthparts contained at the end. This rostrum is thought to have evolved as a means of boring into plant tissues to create an egg cavity." |

7 - Made a comment but it didn't save - ok, 90% sure this is a weevil and not a spider. Good shot and find for the Challenge. I like the context/natural environment in the shot showing camouflage ability. Criticism; besides the title, like to see it sharper and more detail (depending on opportunity), not only for the Challenge, but to assist in identification which I hope you do and post into your photographer's comments - will be back post Challenge to see. |

perfect camo entry, if this doesn't fit, nothing does. great placement of the spider, possibly could have done with a deeper DOF, and more charpening. |

do not believe that is a spider, but a moot point as far as photo is concerned, very good example and very good photo, only small thing is the three rear legs are a little oof to me, hard to get everything in focus with nature I know, but it is very slightly distracting |

This is not a spider - more likely a weevil |

This is an amazing picture. You have shown a true natural camouflage. Is it really a spider? Or is it a beetle? I gave an 8.
Good focus/clarity and lighting. |

Would be even better if this was actually a spider. |

Boy, he sure is. You hardly see him. Not overly interesting, but considering the challenge criteria, it suits it well. 7 |

That's the most weevil-looking spider I have ever seen. It's certainly blending in. Excellent example of camouflage! |
