Walk On By.by catpixelComment by jmsetzler: Greetings from the Critique Club :)
Hi Catpixel :)
I'm not familiar with your song, but I think you did a great job of capturing the title for sure! The motion of the walker with the musician behind her works very well in this photo.
The only item that I see in this image that could be a technical problem is the blue cast. However, the blue cast seems to add to the 'wintery' theme of the cold weather quite nicely. Your white balance could also be used to correct this. It looks as if the white balance for this shot may have been set to an indoor lighting setting. This often causes blue cast in an outdoor environment.
Brighting up a dark image can also be accomplished by using a larger aperture. This, in your case, would have also caused a faster shutter speed which would have frozen the motion of your walker. I believe the motion blur in the walker is an important part of this image. Looking at your camera settings, I think that a manually exposed shot at F4.5 and 1/15" could have possibly given you the amount of light you were looking for...
Keep up the good work!
John Setler

Five Minutes From Midtown.by catpixelComment by paynekj: I found this picture a bit frustrating. I would like to see the bridge, rather than having the tree in the middle obscuring it. I like the fact that the bits of blue sky make some of the trees sppear to have blue foliage. |

Life on the L-edgeby catpixelComment by indigo997: In a way, I think this was one of the less inspired ways to interpret the challenge. People probably had a hard time coming up with ideas and don't always appreciate someone taking the easy way out. I like the building in the background and think that you could have shown more of it or found somewhere else to put the book - making it a little less prominent in the shot. The lighting is definitely too harsh. You don't need a shutter speed anywhere near that fast so you probably didn't need to use the flash if that is what you did. I'm really not sure what else you could have done with this shot. Technically, the only major problem is the lighting. It's the subject that is a little too bland IMO. |

Rugby: Ballet for Blokes.by catpixelComment by DougPaz: I like the title and it really does appear that they are dancing! I wish there was a bit more color in the foreground and less in the background but it is not something that you can control. |

Rugby: Ballet for Blokes.by catpixelComment by HBunch: I have never seen rugby played, nor do I know anything about it. Is there even a ball?? Other than a few guys with awesome leg muscles, I'm not really sure what's going on here. That's my fault though, not yours. My only complaint is a small one. The guy to the left in blue, has his hands out, but the shadow from the right arm is covering part of the left hand, kind of making it blend into the background. Otherwise, lighting and focus are good. angle and framing/cropping are good. I like how you have gotten all 3 guys in the shot. Good luck in the challenge. |
