Lovely shot, that afternoon llow light is such a nice light to work with. You possibly won't score as high as you wanted with this because it doesn't have a DPC 'wow' factor. The elements are all there like low light, great texture on the coat and that lovely chestnut colouring. Closer cropping would highlight those, perhaps getting down to the horse's level and maybe just trying to get your subject into the Rule of Thirds.

This shot has potential. I would have cropped out the fence at the top. It is somewhat distracting. Also, maybe move the subject off center and give more negative space to give more interest.

Ohh, would I love a close up of this ... the textures, the colors, this is awesome. I would have cropped a little tighter because the subject can stand alone, without the grasses and branches to distract, 7.
