In all simplicity.by DrJOnesComment by sylandrix: Greetings from the Critique Club!...
COMPOSITION... You've chosen a unique angle that brings added interest to the shot. By using a high perspective it really makes you feel like you carry a lot of weight, a sense of confidence and "solidness" of character I suppose...just trying to grasp the emotive quality of the shot that is imparted by use of this particular angle.. A very nice gradient background really makes you stand out.,,
TECHNIQUE... What can I say about this either? Every thing in the photo is in focus, the lighting is just excellent, from the highlights in the hair, to the subtle gradient in the background. Hardly any shadows to detract from the image...
OVERALL... Easily among the top of the challenge entries. Conservative voting may have been the only reason you didn't place top 10... |

Plastic Surgeryby DrJOnesComment by DrJOnes: Missed a spot in the top 3 by a hair for the second time... LOL!!!
Thanks everyone for the nice comments. I understand my photography can be weird or provocative to some on DPC, and I take this rank 4 as a great compliment from everybody.
To answer some of the questions, this is a real model wearing a latex catsuit, gloves and hood. The model can breathe through holes at her nostrils. I photoshoped them out to add to the "doll illusion". I did this photo for DPC and not for any other project. I wanted to experiment with the B&W and create a special atmosphere with the low-key technique and this model in latex. The suit is black. The background too. Big main source light on the left (6 foot softbox flash) and one backlight on the right.
We shot for 30 minutes. After that, the model was exhausted. It's not easy to shoot in this outfit, blind... and it can get very warm during these summer days.

Plastic Surgeryby DrJOnesComment by smellyfish1002: What an interesting mage! At first I thought this was a statue or figurine, but I think it is a real person. Tell me if I'm wrong!! I'll be 38 on Tuesday, so I'm kind of out of the fashion loop. I haven't seen clothes like this where I buy my Levi's and button downs! LOL Great pose, lighting is excellent, meets the challenge well. The areas that are blown out are a plus for this image due to the material/plastic the suit is made out of. I've never known anyone who actually knows a real super hero. Once the challenge is over, could I get an autograph??? Electronic autograph is fine... jdanderson1002@cs.com
Wonderful creativity and execution. I have to give it a 10, even though that will diminish my chances of getting a top 3!!
(PS looks like one of magnetics' shots!) |

Plastic Surgeryby DrJOnesComment by undieyatch: .....bold subject matter ....... slippery and shiny.... appreciate the definition in space, which could have been lost with less awareness and sensitivity of the background....... The subtle frame works perfect with the image. |
