Congratulations on a colorful capture with good details - and a pretty good job overall, given the Basic Editing. Plus, it already sounds as though you've learned something about lighting, and THAT seems to be the entire point of DPC (to challenge yourself, as well as others).

What a travesty... the 1's tick me off too. I'm pretty dang conservative in my social views as well, but this is just a photography, and a great one at that.

You know what they say, the good art always stirs controversy and based on the number of comments during voting... you got yourself some bonafied (no pun intended) art here!!!

Nice chess photo, however, i feel the picture could be a lot more effective if it was an actual game of chess, rather than just an arrangement of some chess pieces. These three pieces have no meaing to the viewer. I dont even know what side of the board they're facing.

I can only agree with comments already made. From a technical and creative point of view, this was never going to ribbon. However, the plethora of low votes says more about voters trying to impose their own moral views than anything else. Ho hum....

Judging by the number of low scores this image garnered, it would seem that the quality and technical merits of the image were relegated to the dustbin by some of the more conservative elements on this site.

The image certainly did not merit the bounty of 10's you received, but by the same token, I fear that the 1's are more reflective of the righteous indignation of some voters than they are of the quality of the image.

The image certainly met the criteria of the challenge, was in focus and was well lit... and that in itself should warrant a score of 5 at the very least... but then again, it would seem that unbiased decisions might be difficult for some to render when faced with a controversial subject matter.
