I'm sorry you got so many negative comments from people who chose to be offended by this. They obviously haven't seen Photoman_Forever's shot of the 'untraditional' nude model with her hand shoved into her panties. I'm as liberal as they come, but that one is a bit much for me and IMO should not be on this site which does have child photographers on it. This one is rated PG compared to that one. Most children over the age of 10 these days knows what a vibrator is. And it's a well taken photo. Anyone who said it's not a good photo is being influenced by their conservative offendedness... | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 01/05/2007 02:03:58 AM | Three Speed Boyfriendby lkn4truthComment by wyldchyld: How about this . . . what if a photo offends you and you can not judge a photo based on it's technical merits . . . how about at that point you move on to the next picture that doesn't offend you that you can view with some objectivity and vote based on techinical merits of the photo? You do NOT have to vote on 100% of the photos in a challenge. Yes, I am saying if you are offended by a subject of a photo . . don't vote on it! I'll do the same . . . when I see the 75th photo of your kid, grandkid, dog, or pretty little posey, I will just pass on by and not slam it for the technical pitfalls or the fact that is does not meet the challenge . . . yet again. Because honestly, dpchallenge is not going to save the world, make the net a safer place for all humanity or fix the sorry state of this big blue ball. No name calling, no hurtful comments . . . just productive comments. (Yeah, I know, whatever . . hearts and flowers). Allow people who are inclined to think outside the box, to embrace their creativity . . . not stifle it. IF it meets the rules of the site, it should be judged fairly, regardless of subject matter. If you can't, then dq yourself as a judge for that photo. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 01/05/2007 12:43:41 AM | Three Speed Boyfriendby lkn4truthComment by wyldchyld: Oh give me a freakin break . . . kids see far worse than this benign image on the web, tv, magazines and movies. Is this image so much worse than the constant brutality of other creatures that they witness 45 billion times an hour? Is it ok that children watch something like oh I don't know . . . the evening news and see all the crap going on in the world? Should we ban newscasts, cartoons, movies, sitcoms, parental fights, oh and the shool yard and friends, magazines, textbooks . . . hell lets lock everyone in a room and give them white walls, white paper, white everything to look at . . . nothing to offend. I NOR IS ANYONE ELSE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR CHILDREN . . . I have four of the little boogers and have allowed them to see whatever comes there way . . . but I HAVE TALKED TO THEM AND GIVEN THEM THE INPUT OF A GOOD PARENT . . . . that is my responsibility . . not to try to keep the world out but to teach them how to deal with the world. VIBRATORS ARE OUT THERE . . . THOSE SCAREY MONSTERS . . . YES BRUTALITY IS OUT THERE . . . IT IS TERRIBLE. Do I view it as art no, but if it is within the rules and technically good, I would judge it as such. Doesn't mean I approve it . . . or would choose it as my subject.
If you really want to save all children and make the world a better place -- instead of attacking people on a website such as this for a benign image . . . go after movie producers, or politicians or some other hideous creature . . . not some poor smo who sees art where you can't.
Individual responsibilty and individual rights are all kept in the same place . . . in people who, like me, are willing to reach outside the box and not allow irrational fears, prejudices and hatred taint who I am, or what I stand up for. You can call me self righteous, you can call me . . umm what was the term someone used "devil's spawn" but as long as there are people like me in the world . . people like you can continue to take pictures of WHATEVER you CHOOSE and know that someone out here is going to judge you on the technical merits . . . even if it is another damn shot of your kid with it's finger up its nose or some smelly animal that you love. I am the person that is willing to stand up to the bullies, the egotists, the fanaticists that seek to limit a person's rights simply because they don't like something. Get a grip. Byte me. Whatever it takes. But continue to take pictures of pretty flowers if that is what you choose to do, but don't blast other's ideas of beauty or art or those who take the time and energy to defend personal artistic freedom and expression. Just an idea but next time you photograph something along these lines.. maybe try to lube it up and add some water dropletts.. might hide the dust that sticks to those surfaces so terribly and give it a bit more depth ;)
I think its a great idea for a product/advertising type shot :) | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 01/04/2007 10:45:53 AM | Three Speed Boyfriendby lkn4truthComment by OmanOtter: What offends me is not the picture, but comments like those of Wyldchyld that have the audacity to call people closed-minded, narrow-minded, or the like for taking issue with this picture. I got a kick out of this picture; but I understand perfectly well why some might take issue with it. It is not an illegitimate complaint to point out that kids can look at this site. Moreover, to answer that complaint by saying that it is parents' responsibility to monitor their children is a non-answer. We were all kids once. We all know what we were able to do behind our parents' backs. Also, we all know that their are bad parents out there who could care less what their kids see or do. Do we as a society, and as individuals bear no responsibility for the things we do that these and other children see?
Then there's the ludicrous position that "art" is above reproach. How many times do I have to ask it? What's so special about "art" that it can claim such an exalted position in society that no one may complain about it? How about a perfectly crafted painting, photo or sculpture of a child being molested? Is this acceptable under the mantle of "art?" I should hope not. What about a perfectly exposed and framed photo of a woman being raped or brutalized? Or a man for that matter?
Then there is the question of good taste. Again, I got a kick out of this picture. But does that mean it was in good taste? Does its good lighting and exposure make it art? And, even if it is art, should it be posted in a public forum? Do we bear no responsibility toward the community?
Where do individual rights end and individual responsibility begin?
I don't care about this photo, but I hate the self-righteous attitude of some of its defenders.
JuliBloc, you made a fair and well-reasoned protest. Good for you. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
