Missing Sunsetby crabappl3Comment by Silver Fox: Oh, come on now, you couldn't have waited for the sun to set? You've got everything in here, and even though it looks cluttered, everything seems to fit. The black and white game board, the blue vase, the glass bear, the lovely polished box, the polished table, the beauty of that little girl with her smiling eyes looking out at you. Is that a blue ribbon on top of her hair? The only distracting thing is the photograph on the left wall. I think I would have taken it down for this picture.

Helical Illumination by crabappl3Comment by jimmyn4: Greetings from the Critique Club.
This was a great photo and well deserved win. Was a tripod and/or self-timer used? If not, I think this photo would be much better if you had. It may have led to a sharper look within the windows. I'm not trying to be too nit-picky but it looks like there might have been some very slight movement when the shutter was released. It could also be that some of the windows are more blurry than others because of the narrower depth of field. Maybe a longer exposure with a larger f-stop could have helped with focus. Again, I think this is a great photo. Nice colors, composition, lighting and great subject too! It deserved the win, Congratulations! |

Missing Sunsetby crabappl3Comment by JPR: Yes, the sunset is missing, but I don't see how it would possibly be encorporated anyway, so I guess its better that the sun didnt set in the house just this once. I like the blue on the girls headband and how it mimicks the blue in the vase. Also, the wood tones and grains are nice. I would ger rid of the glass statue (what is it a polar bear?) It somehow doesn't fit the warmth of the rest of the loving photograph. Nice job. Good portrait shot. |

Adornmentby crabappl3Comment by justine: Greetings from CC:
Hi crabappl3 Before I start congrats on your win this week. Good job.
Fits The Challenge-Yes.
Composition-Couldn't be better.
Background-N/A
Digital Processing-Needed more light and or contrast.
My Opinion-Nice find and a beautiful chunk of wood. The only thing wrong with this shot is that it's too flat, there's nothing to excite the eye.
Thanks for the opportunity to review your photo.

Missing Sunsetby crabappl3Comment by RiderGal: I think some people miss the point of challenges... this challenge was not about how much cliche you could get into the photo, but how you could really make a thing we see all the time look super nice, and be a great photo. Ok, you go everything in but the sunset but unfortunately your photo is not extremely interesting, or greatly appealing. There are some major problems with this picture... for one it is much too busy, I have no clue what I should be looking at and even the background detracts from the setting, for another, I think it looks almost centered, yes the girl is slightly off center, but I think I would have liked a different crop here, as well as shooting this from a different angle. The lighting isn't too bad, it looks pretty even, and your focus is good, though I might have liked to see a different DOF, with some of the background blurred. I'm sorry for ripping on your photo, but this site is about photography often more then just meeting the challenge. |
