City in the Mountainsby gr8daneComment by ubique: I like the dramatic juxtaposition here. The transition from city to mountains and sky is so stark and spectacular as to appear unrealistic. And yet it is real. I'll guess somewhere in Colorado, USA?
It's probably not really about city life in the sense that some of the more visceral images in the challenge are, but it is at least a photograph of a town that might be a city, and its quality of visual surprise makes it a worthy and legitimate entry. |

City in the Mountainsby gr8daneComment by ShannonLee: i would have cropped this just before that powerline this would have been great with just the mountains and the lights directly at its base. that light on the bottom is very distracting |

City in the Mountainsby gr8daneComment by pacpinto: The contrast between the big mountains and the city lights is very nice. I might have cropped out the bottom 1/4 of the pic, to show only the small lights and the mountains, as I find the big light blur distracting, but! it's nice anyway. |

City in the Mountainsby gr8daneComment by sajin: apart from the burned out headlights....it's an awsome shot...love the fact that you managed to bring out the detail in the mountains and sky. i would have cropped the small bit of branch out of the top left of the shot. looking at this shot some more..did you think of cropping it just above the starburst street lights? |

JoyInLightby gr8daneComment by stare_at_the_sun: Greetings from the Critique Club!
The first though that comes to mind when I see this and read your comments is "You shot this handheld?!" Haha...you deff. have steadier hands than I do.
First off....what I think could be improved upon; Well...to be honest with you there isn't much about this photo that can be changed to make it better. As stated in an earlier comment...I think a different perspective might have worked a little better. Maybe just shifted to the right a little..so the red lighted trees in the middle are a little less in the middle. That's really the only thing I can see that could be improved on.
What I like about your photo; Pretty much everything...Especially the lights:P Your depth of field is wonderful, the trees in the foreground on either side really brings the photo together. Everything is perfectly in focus and very sharp, especially for a night shot. Your composition is great also...The building is perfectly positioned in the background and it's beauty is really brought out by the Christmas lights all around it. A very festive shot indeed...
Overall...a great photo totally deserving of the score it recieved. Congrats...and Keep up the good work!
