"The first frost had come to Wawa early. Gelert and I hiked back through fall colors, crisp air, and no mosquitoes, reaching our campsite overlooking Deer’s Pond just before sunset.
That night, spirits of the firelight danced around me through the trees as the rising moon silvered the smooth surface of the water. With Gelert snoring softly beside me, other spirits danced through my thoughts.
I didn't want them to dance. I didn't want them to even exist. But spirits have their own views on these matters, and are very persistent when they feel it’s time for a performance. These ghosts went back fifteen years. The prompting for tonight's tango was much more recent.."

Dance, spirits.

As I'm browsing through the pages of b/w side challenge images, I have to say I'm finding myself repeatedly popping open thumbnails to see that the images belong to you. These are my kind of photos. I'm not a huge fan of texture overlays, but the images themselves are so strong and work so well in b/w that it hardly matters.

Thank goodness for side challenges so stuff like this can get a little play on the site.

Great tones and processing. Only thing I don't like about this shot is the composition. I think it keeps this shot from having as much impact as it could.

Took a sec to register the face - really neat! I can imagine a horse and rider on the right side to give it real western look. Like this a lot!

for some reason "Horse with No Name" by America came to mind. I like the pensive feel of it. The overlay works great to convey that message. I like the tones of it too - warm and familiar.

WOAH - I didn't know Art Roflmao was such a literary scholar. WOO HOO

How about this?

His parched soul, swelling like a desert root,
Broke out its delicate dream upon the air;
The mountains shook with earthquake under foot;
An angel seized him suddenly by the hair;

an excerpt from Alec Derwent (A.D.) Hope, Australian poet, 1907-2000, which I found here.

(also chuckled at the username of who posted it)

I love the image, Alicia! "Parched Soul" was the first thing that popped in my head and it's what I googled for.
