On the Dark Sideby KiwiShotzComment by rwouthuis: You've got a very interesting pose and expression nut the unfocused approach is very distracting for me. I think this might have been much improved with a sharper image and maybe some photoshop processing to add to the expression captured. Maybe the Grunge action. JMO. |

Yearningby KiwiShotzComment by sfalice: greetings from the Critique Club
Are you a member of the Critique Club? Well, if so, it's your turn!
;>)
You nailed the Challenge but didn't receive very good marks (to say the least) I don't know your camera, but have no quarrel with your EXIF data. The girl is sharp. I'd say she was more troubled than yearning, and that may have turned the female audience away as I think most of us (females) would have read her expression that way. The grotesque foreground works for veracity; it doesn't work for sympathy. That turns a bunch of other voters away. There are (well you know there are) some artifacts in the right foreground that are difficult.
Still, kiwiPix, I like this image a lot. So, while it didn't turn the voters 'on,' it, depending on circumstances, could end up in a gallery somewhere. So don't throw this very exciting image out. It's a slice of life that says something that needs to be said about society. Hecks bells, you could write a book about what's being said in this image.
Okay, that's enough philosophy for tonight.
Best regards,
Alice |

North Island Kaka - (Nestor Meridionalis)by KiwiShotzComment by melismatica: The main subject looks out of focus and there is too much contrast due to flash lighting. The bird eye is reflecting green or amber from the flash which is as bad as red-eye. While there is some interest in seeing the subject frozen in flight there is just too much quality lost as a result of flash, IMO. From a photo of the same subject that I viewed prior to this, that also suffered from flash lighting, I get the idea that this subject is in a very low-light environment and difficult to capture. |

On the Dark Sideby KiwiShotzComment by bcoble: A little too soft or out of focus for me. I do like the expression of the subject. Not too sure about the background. If the background was all dark and he was in focus, I am sure it would be a better image. Just my opinion. |

Yearningby KiwiShotzComment by tonyv: I think that this would be much stronger if we could see her whole face. |
