Simple.by GeocideComment by Pedro: too bad about the shadows...I really like the image. better lighting would lessen the need to brighten this and delineate your subject better. good job. |

The Magic Wheelby GeocideComment by christo: I like this picture a lot.
Very original idea, and very well executed. I like the abstract touch. My eyes keep being captivated by the shapes. I guess this is the reason you didn't do better at the time of the challenge: this picture is not focused enough on colors. The shapes are too complex: they drive the attention.
But outside the original theme, it is an excellent picture IMO.

America's Heartlandby GeocideComment by wewillexplore: Greetings fromt the Critique Club
Hello, Adam.
Composition
A great subject - I would have moved closer to eliminate the fence and crop a lot of the sky out. Your subjects are the cows - focus on them, get to what a cow is - maybe eating grass, maybe laying down, maybe with a baby calf nearby - what IS a cow? Just an animal near the fence?
Color
I'm not fond of this exposure. I think iso 400 is really high for a daylight shot in normal circumstances. Use the 100, run the shutter at 1/160 instead or something. I think your colors would be more saturated (you could also fix this in Photoshop/PSP).
Focus
I'd think this cam (excellent cam) can focus better than this. Did you use a tripod? It's pretty essential for the kind of shots that do well on DPC. I think the hairs on the head could be crisp, etc.
Lighting
Pretty typical daylight shot - perhaps the different iso and shutter speed would fix the slight darkness here.
Subject matter
Fits the challenge well.
Overall
Just one of those shots that may not have worked as well as you hoped - good luck next time - you have some great shots in your gallery. Keep shooting!

America's Heartlandby GeocideComment by frisca: I probably would have cropped a bit more of the sky out and focused more on the cows to get more detail on them. :) |

Come forth to carry me home.by GeocideComment by rmahan: This is a really nice image showing the rays of the sun. I like it. I think I might like it better if it didn't have the tower in it but I not sure that wouldn't remove a focal point and the balance you have. Colors are quite remarkable and there is some differentiation between the dark clouds and the dark land. (I wouldn't want to be able to turn the photo upside down and have it look almost the same.) I have always liked crepuscular sun rays and you've captured them nicely. Overall, you've done a very good job of conveying an interesting moment for "Weather". In other words, I can't find much to critisize about your picture!
Regards ... for the Critique Club,
Bob Mahan

Springby GeocideComment by lisae: I like the shallow DOF effect, but I think the area at the focal point is a bit over exposed. Interesting idea though! |

Springby GeocideComment by karmat: I love the contrast/compliments of the colors in this one, and though it seems rather soft, I find it effective! |

Springby GeocideComment by dsidwell: Now THAT'S a stamen! Very sensual, almost erotic. I like how they dramatically rise from blurriness. |
