Ethnicityby danica22Comment by Tej: Thanks for leaving comment on one of my pictures (from where I came to your portfolio). I wanted to leave a generic comment, but this photo atterected me to leave a specific comment. I think this is beautiful photo and the title is "perfect". Not many people would choose such simple, and yet different, 'subject' for 'representations' of Ethnicity. Though this one is nude, it still does not let the theme get diluted by basic-instincts :)This is true art. btw, on technical side the upper right corner is blown out and focus is little soft.
Now coming to more general comment applicable to most of b/w portraits in your portfolio - you really have good sense of lighting and access to beautiful bodies, but somehow the focus on 'almost' all seem to be little soft and also the tonal range is not fully exploited. I feel contrast really needs to be played with. One thing which is really admirable in nude photos is that the model(s) seem to 'feel' very much comfortable with the shots and which kind of gives very natural feel to photos. seaweed at sunsetby danica22Comment by levyj413: The soft focus conveys that time of day nicely. However, the consistent blue tone makes it hard for me to figure out where to look.
I wonder what's just to the left of the frame? Could you have panned left? That way, the the arch in the sky that starts mid-frame here would continue, adding a top frame to the photo. The seaweed would then provide the bottom frame, with the waves in the middle. That would also add some different colors to the picture.
Looking through your portfolio, it looks like this is what's to the left:
, so maybe this idea would work next time? |

At the lakeby danica22Comment by marbo: The haze in the center is called a hot spot caused by the lens.
A better lens to use is the canon 50mm f1.8 which has no hot spot. |
