I guess some people just didn't get it. The concept for this shot was that a seed did survive (thus the title "Survivor") in this starkness. The seed grew in spite of the harshness of it's surroundings into this tree. Some seeds will infact lay dormant for thousands of years until the conditions are right for it to sprout.
Unfortunately, the shot was not viewed in this light. Such is life!
