Monet's Water Liliesby DrAchooComment by JuliBoc: I probably would have given this a 5. I find the circles distracting. The colors, light, reflection and composition are pleasing. I agree it's hard watching the voters kick a shot you like, but unfortunately I'm getting used to that. |

Monet's Water Liliesby DrAchooComment by KaDi: I would have placed this low, not because of its fitness for the challenge but because I have a strong dislike for images that make me dizzy. Most images using zoom effect have this effect on me as well. Besides, there's someone at my local camera club that over-uses a similar technique...we've all got our pet peeves. :) |

Monet's Water Liliesby DrAchooComment by DrAchoo: The effect is done in-camera by spinning it on a tripod. The shot is 0.5 seconds, I believe and the spin is not nearly as much as you would think (maybe a few degrees). This left the interesting clear section in the middle which lends a focal point to a picture which would otherwise not have one. I boosted the colors quite a bit as this was shot on an overcast morning.
Yes, I self-DQ'd it at 16 votes and a 4.333. I was perhaps hasty and likely could have pulled at least a 5.3-5.5 with it. BUT, sometimes you get to like a picture and seeing it get hammered (it had two 1s, a 2 and a 3 in the first 16 votes) is like watching a child get beat up. You just want to pull them out of there. Well, live and learn. |

Monet's Water Liliesby DrAchooComment by noraneko: This is a pretty cool effect, Doc. Did you put gel/Vaseline on a filter in this pattern, or did you achieve this by twirling your camera on a tripod in a long exposure? Very interesting. |

Summer's Reposeby DrAchooComment by Techo: You say you did what!? LOL. You caught 6 damsels, wow. Your yard is just alive with great bugs. Lucky doc, you have such close access to the freezer hehe. It's a really nice shot m8, with the excellent dof and really good bokeh. It's tack sharp and detailed but would've loved to see an even closer up view. These smaller red dragonflies are a pain to stalk, they're really skiddish. Still no success in catching a glimpse of one since 3 years ago, when I was still using the point and shoot. So I can understand how getting it colder would help, but the damselflies aren't such a pain but it does take patience/skill in subtly shooting one so they dont fly off, not as easy shooting one as those more common dragonflies. |
