If I saw this photo again 80 years from now I would remember it. Even with my then 100 year old memory-lacking brain. It speaks straight to the heart of any human. The beautiful thing about art, especially yours, is that it can be interpreted many different ways. I interpret this very differently then Lentil. As opposed to it protraying letting go of all the negativity in our life, I see it as letting go of something BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING AND POSITIVE. The things that are hardest to let go of... your first love, your children when they grow up and move out, your dog that lived a long life and was your best friend that passed away, your passion that you had to give up because of an aquired disability. The bird cage is positioned right at your heart and this speaks to me... this represents the tough love and heartbreak that goes along with letting go. I first saw this picture a couple of months ago when I was going through my first heartache ever and it truly did help me to let go. And thats what your photos do Han. They stir up emotion and push for change!! And THAT is what makes an outstanding and unforgettable photographer. Without even looking in your profile, I could name off twenty images from heart that I can remember clearly. Because they deeply touched me. These include many of your husbands son... he seems like such an amazing child! And also, countless of your self portraits, as stated below, you are so good at portraying yourself in different ways, and as a frequent self-portraiter myself, I admire you for that. i can also vividly remember the pictures with the orange balloons and the other ones with the old birdcage. Lastly, I love looking at the photos of your art displays... that is such an inspiration, it motivates me to work hard at my art so that one day I too can be displayed in a museum, etc!

sooo, i guess what i am trying to say is...you rock.... HARD!

this is THE most awesome image ...
i've just read thru wot tashy and lisa wrote and totally agree with everything they say ..
you ARE a gifted and extremely original and unique photographer/artist .. i've said similar things on your other images over time, and my opinion of your ability only grows with each passing moment ..
i reckon this particular image is just another fantastic and distinct han .. it has your style written all over it .. if it had been another person sitting in that chair, it would still be obvious that this is one of your images ... the black and white works soooooo well for you ...
i love the way you are able to translate wot's in your very imaginative mind into an amazing artwork ..
i just love the cage that isnt immediately obvious, well it wasnt to me .. (i love elements in an image that arent immediately obvious) .. and the way the birds are flying free .. this image says so much .. and i'm sure it would mean different things to different ppl ..
for me, this image gives a wonderful feeling of freedom and release .. we are all caged within our minds to a large extent and our soul confined within our bodies .. this image makes me think about the wonderful feeling of release and freedom i will feel when my soul is finally set free .. :):)xx

Han - This photo to me screams of something that the everyday person should really do. Just let it go. Let go of whats bothering you if it really isnt that important. (i am not very good at expressing myself through words so bear with me) Let go of the crap in your life, Let go of the negative.

Technically I think this is wonderful. Great lighting, love the black and white. I like how you think out photographs before you take them. I am the complete opposite.

Like Natasha said, I love how you include yourself in alot of your pics, I know that isnt a real easy thing to do. I applaud you for that. :)
Well done fellow Harajuku Girl :)

Han, the thing I particularly love about your work is your creativity..you see the world in an artistic way, ways that move through time and space... i particularly like the way that you really can make a scene look like it would have been 4o years ago-your 60's pictures look so authentic...I think that you have a great talent for this.

One of your huge strengths (IMO) is the way you use yourself in so many ways in your pictures....you seem to really use photograhy as a way of expressing a personal journey and all the different sides to a personality....I admire how you are able to see a picture in your head and carry it out to perfection...your self portraits are like an insight into your world...

I have noticed that your processing is always spot on, you seem very able to use processing to help you tell a story, but without ever looking overly processed, I imagine that there is a thin line between overly processed and adding a "look" to an image....all your work seems to do this flawlessly! WOW!

OK-we said that we would try and add things for each of us to work on-Han this is so hard to suggest things for you....have you thought about trying types of photography that are outside of your style..for example architectural or candid? By no means do we need to do these things...but perhaps this is something to try?

Han-you have a very distinct style....it seems alternative (in a good quirky way), tells a story and a real expression of yourself and all the facets of yourself...your photgraphy is so original and passes through time and space....I love it!

yeah, I do have that ability, but I actually like it this way better. I played with the contrasts (this is a pretty high contrast-setting) and this way was just the best. Thanks for thinking with me!
