by Canadian_ehComment by sherpet: I like the composition of this one, re the angle of his face.
I also love the reflection that you have captured in his eye, wonderful textures, and a very clear image. |

Unsoundby Canadian_ehComment by sanx: This is great! Wow. I love it, the BW, the cracked face, and the white insanity crawling up into your hair. Your eyes look a tad bit blue, strangely. I don't know if that's what you were going for, but I think it adds to the conceptualism. |

Passion Fruitby Canadian_ehComment by Makka: * Greetings from the Critique Club*
Hi Ben. First up, congratulations on your highest scoring image. I've always preferred the 'less is more' style of photograph and this is a classic example. You obviously put in a lot of effort to get this one.
The colours are striking and you resisted from the 'too much saturation' syndrome which can happen with images like this. I find the blacks of the seeds and around the strawberry seem a little strange looking, almost painted on. It could be from the PP perhaps.
Your framing and focus are good. I've been sitting here trying to look at your lighting as the shadow looks a bit wierd in that it seems 'cut off' on the edge. I could be just being picky here though.
All up, it's a great simple photo and it was received very well. Good stuff. Best of luck in your future challenges.

Unsoundby Canadian_ehComment by cfischl: Really cool looking. The only thing i would change is black border. I would get rid of it. Just my two cents though. Message edited by author 2006-08-03 17:04:09. |

Texture is Measured in Yearsby Canadian_ehComment by Louis: Nice portrait overall, lovely lighting, and great deep contrast, something I'm especially fond of. There's a hint of her environment behind her (despite her grandson's big head in the reflection ;) ), but it's understated and subtle and just enough to leave us with an impression. That's really well done. Technically, I think this is a superior image. My only criticism is of the way you've composed her. There's too much between the chin and top of the head (which is just slightly cut off), and not enough lower down. I think you could have achieved the subtle environmental effect with a portrait orientation, and thus included more of her. So much of her face like this really gives it an unsettling disembodied feeling that detracts slightly. But, as I've said, a technically wonderful shot, well executed otherwise. Nice job. |

I love the black negative space around you, this adds a bit to the creepy-and weirdness. details must be stunning on the original. maybe use a bit of USM to get them back on this size? |

Unsoundby Canadian_ehComment by elsapo: LOL this is awesome! I love your expression, its almost like "the things I do to get a good photo".. I don't mind that your are centered, but maybe crop a little bit of the black from both sides?.. Ohh yeah I think B&W was perfect for this! |
