Kindred Spirits by tateComment by tate: First of all: Avoid pointing the a bright light directly at the lens (unless you like lens flare). This is one reason I tried to diffuse the light a bit.
The first step of the process is lighting the scene - that involves keeping the light itself out of the frame - and not lighting anything you don't want to see. The cool thing about having a moving lightsource is that you can light up areas that may otherwise be in shadow -so you can get a hyper-real effect sometimes.
The part where the "paint" is the light itself is just trial and error and keep in mind where the camera is in relation to your subject. Timing is essential though and having a steady hand helps too.

Kindred Spirits by tateComment by ambaker: Congratulations on the blue ribbon.
Very well deserved, what a great shot. I like that you didn't try to take it down to the bottom of the glass. Makes it look like it is just starting. Very ephemeral effect. Your fellow "Greeks" are very proud of you. |

Kindred Spirits by tateComment by one2one: Cool shot. I'm very interested in light painting, something I never tried myself. Seeing images like this tempts me to try it out. Thanks for the inspiration and congratulations. |
