As i write this, I have no idea what you scored or what others thought - these are my "raw" thoughts. This is a shot that I really like. The expanse of sand really makes me think of the ocean. It looks like Atlantic sand. I really like the composition, and I don't know what you could have done to make that suit me any more. The color splash caused by the girl's hat and clothing is especially attractive, and pulls my eye quickly to itself. All that said, it still looks a little bit like a vacation snapshot, and I'm not sure why. I think it needs a touch of contrast, but I think the biggest "flaw" here is that it seems to have been shot in bright midday sun. A similar shot at sunup (or sundown, depending on the beach location) might have had some very interesting light colors. I think that's what it needs most.

I like the crop on this shot, only wish it were in better focus. The glare seems too distracting with the white dress.

Comment by Kelli:
I scored this a 6 in the challenge. Though it met the challenge well, it just seemed not to have any type of wow factor. Maybe too much sand (browns). IMHO, I think a closer crop or a vertical take with more of the ocean showing and less of the sand would have improved this.

Comment by ericwoo:
This is very nicely composed, the exposure is nailed and the focus is crisp. However, I think that the color really takes away from this capture. Forgive me, but I wanted to take a look at it with SEPIA TONING, and I think that the treatment serves it well. The color work in your portfolio is spectacular! I just think this one works a little better tined.

4 - Variation in composition, including 'choosing' which surface to 'show' (ie: best), a little more 'depth' and perhaps a variation in angle/perspective, may have given this a little extra in my opinion.

Comment by Kathy:
Reds could be more intense (am seeing orangish appearance.) Still, a nice composition
