To be honest, to me this seems a bit cluttered and as though not much thought went into pulling off the idea. I'm sure you could have found a more dynamic setup/composition, maybe with less peppers and more thought into the shapes they formed together, both from the peppers themsleves and the negative space between them. This would have enabled it to become more of a composition of form in the context of the complementary peppers, rather than just a 'snapshot' (sorry!) of a quick concept.

Lighting is very sensitive though, which works well. I'd like to see the b/g slightly lighter.

Try some more, according to everyone's advice and see what ya get

I think you did a good job with the lighting here but it could have had more "pop" (a certifiable DPC term, I'm sure) if the background had been whiter. I suspect you can set this with post processing, though not sure what it would do to the colors of the peppers. My other comment would be that it's a bit busy and haphazard, though I like the sorta diagonal formed by the large red peppers. My grandmother taught my mother who told me that in arranging anything, one should stick to odd numbers - here I think three, or maybe five peppers would be a simpler more dramatic arrangement.

All that said, it scored fairly well, and the folks who gave it 2s and 3s were probably grumpy that day or tired of shots of peppers/vegetables this week. Who knows?

this is an interesting subject, but I think the image is to crowded, I think the minimalism way could be useful in an image like this, just 3-4 peppers.

what I noticed instantly when I looked at your image was that the peppers are getting old and wrinkly, to fix that for a photoshoot you can put them in icewater for 10-15 minutes before shooting, that usually straightens the wrinkles. and the downside of the pepper is usually prettier than the stem.

lighting is pretty good, but there are small spots that are blown out.

hope this helps a bit and you'll do another shoot just to practise and show us the result.

hello.

i thought it was just a bit ordinary. it was a great shot of peppers. ifn you were trying to show people what a pepper looks like you got it straight on.

the photography is well done. i can see nothing wrong with it. the composition is maybe, just maybe, too much of a good thing. sorry that is all i have, that maybe, just maybe, you got too many peppers in it.

Impact on first view of this for me was high because of the nice vibrant colour. I like how you've arranged everything to give a nice even distribution of the two colours. Focus is great, lighting is good as well, with some interesting shadows that I think could even have been played up with curves perhaps.

The state of the vegetables should be pristine in a shot like this I think. :) I might have decided to crop lower from the top, to leave a kind of crowd of peppers at the top with no background visible, and an empty space at bottom. Might have been an interesting effect. Nice soft shadows down there.

I gave you a 6 on this one. I think it was just a bit too busy. You probably could have gotten away with a couple less bell peppers - maybe stuck with just one of each variety. Overall the colors seem a bit dull. Brighter colors and a different arrangement of the peppers would have given you a better score in my opinion.

Trading Post...

I like the composition, but the reds seem a little muted. DOF is excellent as is focus. The crop works well except for where the stems are cropped off. I think maybe if you had sprayed these with a little water it might have given it some "wow" factor.

Wow, this is really clean and focused exceptionally well. The DOF is perfect, because I only see one spot of softness (upper left corner). The colors, though, somehow come across a little dull. I like the fact that there's no glare, but it might have been a good trick to "wax" them and eliminate some "flatness". The composition is good; I'm not sure I would have had the nerve to "cut" them with the edges of the frame, but it works well here and I'm going to learn from that. I did not vote on this particular image, but I probably would have given this a 6, maybe a 7.

The lighting seems a bit flat. I see that you adjusted curves, maybe just a bit more on the adjustment would have really made it pop. The square crop works really well in this image, and that's not always easily pulled off. A small criticism with the composition is the placement of the long green pepper standing. I think that you should have included all of it, including the stem. Chopping it off kind of leads the viewer's eye up and out of the frame. Its leaning position really helps as a leading line, but just ends too abruptly. The same is true for the small, red pepper on the left. We see so much of it that it looks like an accidental omission to leave off the stem. I gave it a 6 in the challenge, and stand by that still.

Good photograph but the light seems a little muddy; perhaps a white-balance issue?

Love the square crop, focus and composition are nice. It just looks a bit too 'warm' for me, the greens could be a bit 'greener' and the whites a bit 'whiter'. Nice shot all the same

I like this concept, however imo if you are going to photograph fruit, veg or any food it needs to be free of blemishes, bruises and dryed withered stems. I know it can be hard to get good produce somtimes, but it is worth it in the long run. This photo might have appeared in a maqgazine or a picture on a restraunt or supermarket wall if it didn't have those small inperfections. Don't get me wrong, I like this photo, I just think it could be a little better.

colors seem dull not a lot of pop. The white balance seems to be off ... incandescent lighting ?

A nice array of vegetables.. nicely shot, well lit, but lacking punch.
On the pages of Home & Garden? Sure, but lacks what it needs for DPC's fickle voters.

4 - Variation in composition, including 'choosing' which surface to 'show' (ie: best), a little more 'depth' and perhaps a variation in angle/perspective, may have given this a little extra in my opinion.

Reds could be more intense (am seeing orangish appearance.) Still, a nice composition
