I gave this a 3 in voting. It really could have been a great picture with better framing and some in camera controls. I also really liked your title. |

Flowers on a Glass Tableby chaliceComment by Louis: Beautiful effect, with a calming composition that really satisfies. I like the understated colours, and the reflectivity of colour in the blossoms and vase. There's a kind of dark band along the left edge that is noticeable to me - I don't know if this was burned in or not, but it may be better if omitted, though it could be argued that it acts as a soft frame for the image. Overall, well done. |

I liked this alot. I gave it a 7 in voting. The colors are soft and it goes with the flowing reflection. I like the way they almost come together. I draws your eye around and around for a while. Great job. |

Not Your Basic Beachboysby chaliceComment by chalice: I really bailed on this challenge. For some reason I got it in my head that "right out of the camera" equalled "snapshot" - so when this boat went by my home and I saw the name on the side of the hull (I was drinking coffee and reading at the time) I grabbed my camera and took a quick snapshot without any forethought and then put the camera away, thinking I was done. Duh. It never even occurred to me to think in photographic terms such as color, composition, textures, lighting, perspective, etc., etc., etc. Only after I started voting and saw everyone's carefully thought out photos did I realize that I "missed the boat" (pun intended) and narrowly missed the much-reviled brown ribbon. Again, Duh.
PS to Trading post: No need to critique this one. It's not worth your time and attention - I know what's wrong and it's a long list. Message edited by author 2006-07-11 01:07:18. |

At the risk of repeating myself, I really do like this composition - the almost-touching shape formed the branch and its reflection is quite lovely. Colors work well, too. About the only thing I'd recommend is try playing with levels a bit to see if you can get the white more white, and if you still like it that way. You can also try "selective color" and take the yellow and a bit of the magenta and cyan out of the white. |

I'm wondering if you turned up the "contrast" or "sharpness" on the 20D's picture style for this challenge. Colors are pretty good (Canon's quite good on that count) but it does indeed need a bit of sharpening. And yes, I know it's "out of the camera". :-)
Composition - would like to see the whole boat in frame, or at least enough of the back to know we had all the people in the frame. Love the title, by the way. |

Glass Candle Holder on a Glass Tableby chaliceComment by timfythetoo: Trading Post -
I scored this a 5 as it technically met the challenge. Overall it just didnt stand out. The lighting is a bit flat and though you have a good reflection, the interest factor is pretty low. Focus is good, crop is good and its obvious you were attemting something creative. It just didnt work out great. |
