Yay! A photographer who knows what they are doing!

Lighting - stunning.
Composition - Unusual but striking.
Tonal values - high contrast, yet spot on.
Post processing - overdone IMO (plastic looking), but that is how DPC likes it.
Content: What is that look? Waiting for someone? Waiting for instructions? Just posing? The look doesn't really grab my attention as much as I would like.

Overall: excellent.

If I'm not wrong, the reason they do this is to reduce the water weight they need to carry, effectively keeping the nutrients, while reducing water through evaporation..
