Not sure if this is a bubble or not (only you knowfor sure!), but I do like this picture. 8.

clever double meaning here. I also like the "zoom lens" effect that the bubbly thing is producing to draw your eye right to the google price quote.

Thanks for the comments! Sorry it took so long to get back here. Traveling, computer crashes - too many distractions! I hope to have more time to spend here from now on.

Comment by Artifacts:
Good solid black background and intersting brown tones on the board and pieces. DOF is OK.

It is doubtful voters will see a strong connection with the challenge topic.

On the technical sie the pieces are not horizontal and that is a major distraction. It makes image lopsided. The white king is slightly overexposed on the right side and it would be nice if it were just a touch darker there. Though generally good the focus is a little soft for an image with a simple presentation like this one. It would be better if the pieces were in razor sharper focus.

Comment by _Io_:
Nice and crisp, but the line of the board at the back is slightly distracting - it doesn't look quite horizontal. The jaunty angle of the rook only serves to heighten this effect. 7

Maybe pushing it a bit... maybe if the winning side were to use black pieces (rather than a brownish finish) it might do better? I don't think the very centered composition is strong in showing the "darkness" of the loss.
