PRICELESS!!! What a capture! Caught in the act! HA! They're hell on feeders aren't they? We go through several every year. (They killed 5 black bears during bear season on Purgatory Mountain last year - one was over 450 lbs.) I like your choice of editing too - gives it an old world flavor that works well. I can see this hanging in a log cabin or house in the country. Well done!!

Makes me think of the old Eddie Murphy stand up routine... "Dead bird. Gonna put it on you. Gonna put it on you! AAAAAUUUUGGGHHHH!" (Dating myself with that one - HA!)

I like the color tones. Poor little guy. :-(

Wow, almost like Joeys. I love the way the birds colors are the same as the road stones.

Otter

Comment by PHOTOKID:
This is a good capture, the tail and body bring depth to your photo. Composition is very nice, I like how the otter is the major subject of the photo. I would have tried a bit less on my DOF as the wall in the back kinda makes it look zooish if you know what i mean. Overall Good capture, I really like the shot.

This one depicts either loneliness or peaceful solitude, with the way the benches face away from each other. Very well seen!

Textures of Rhino

Comment by puzzled:
Found this thanks to the Underground Rhino Club thread.

ShutterPug, I love this one best of all I've seen so far because of the crop. The crescent shape of his (or her?) snout is the focus for me even more than the textures. I just think it's great the way you've shown that half circle broken by the triangles of the rhino's horns. Not sure those things are called horns, but you know what I mean. The placement of his eye in the right is the icing on the cake. Just a wonderful crop and technically well-done shot. Nice work!

==Greetings from the Critique Club==

Composition
I really like this composition. My eye goes immediately to the subject, and the lines make me look around. I like the fact that the red contrasts so completely with the other colors.

Camera Technicals
Trees always frustrate me when it comes to focus. They never look to really be in focus, especially at a distance, and JPEG compression is never friendly to them. I think you were "bit" by that a little bit, and the rocks have a bit of the same problem. The exposure is perfect.

Post Processing
I like the burning that I think you've done. Bringing out the shadows makes the picture feel deep, and helps establish the feeling of distance while also making me feel close to the subject.

Challenge
Obviously it's a retake of your shot, so I don't think there's any question here.

Overall Impression
The shadows on the water bother me. Not that they are "wrong", just that I keep wondering "what caused them?" The colors seem a bit muted, but just slightly. This is a HUGE improvement over your original, by a factor of 2 to 1, IMHO. Very good "redux".

These are just my impressions and thoughts; I hope you find them to be helpful, constructive, and instructional. Thanks for entering; keep up the good work.
