Cassie in B&Wby LadeeMComment by tfaust: This is one of the better ones considering the shallower dof. It is typical in portrait shooting to ask the model to look up slightly... this will open their eyes wider. Eyes are a key element in most portrait shots, especially of this style. I'm a big fan of the hand under the chin. I like backlit shots, but it seems this could have used a little bit of fill flash. |

Cassie in B&Wby LadeeMComment by mandyturner: I think that this one is pretty good, a few hot spots, and the contrast looks good on my pc. The only thing that bothers me is the position of her head. She has her head tilted up and she is looking down. She would be much prettier with her eyes all the way open. |

My Girlsby LadeeMComment by mandyturner: The lighting is even darken in this one, but both girls are looking in the same direction which is good. See the hot spots on the heads and shoulder? When shooting outside, try different times of day or areas of the yard to avoid the hot spots and I think you will have a great picture. |

Sistersby LadeeMComment by mandyturner: There are a few things that distract from the girls. One is the road in the bg, the sunlight on top of their heads, and I would have whitened her teeth. My son JT, has great teeth, but sometimes they look yellow on camera. I think that the pose is nice, but one girl is looking at you and the other isn't. |

My Girlsby LadeeMComment by LadeeM: Originally posted by strangeghost: Faces way too dark. Either use fill flash to compensate or place them so the sun is shining from the side, slightly to the front. |
I did use a fill flash, and the sun was making them squint. I had to desaturate the reds a little bit, because they looked extra pink. That may account for the darkness. Thanks for the comment! :) |

Cribbageby LadeeMComment by rwouthuis: I don't think anyone else mentioned this ....
Generally speaking odd numbers are more pleasing to look at than even numbers. This applies to many areas such as design and gardening but it also applies to photographic and artistic composition. So, in addition to the fron peg being a bit of a distraction, it is the even numbered peg that could be removed. The could then sort of follow the line to the winning peg. To add even more strength for cultures used to viewing things from left to right, you could have set this up so that the leading peg finished on the right side. JMO. |
