Was this really taken with the F828? I thought the F717 only came out late 2002, F828 was much later (at least, in my memory).

There is something in the nature of this lit space that evokes Vermeer's work. I can almost see a young woman standing, facing the window. Or a man with a globe. I think the absence of such characters makes the photo even darker and gloomier that it first appears to be, but certainly no less impactful.

This is a little gem. One starts out by wondering who these people are lined up along the railing, and what it is they are looking at. There is a temptation to believe it is the photographer himself, but those familiar with his work know that he frequently manages to be just about invisible in his picture-taking endeavors. Fequently it is in posing questions great or small rather than answering them that a work makes its mark. What kept my attention is the towering cathedral of light that serves as a backdrop. This is an enchanted space, and it feels like a great priviledge to be invited into it.
