Nobody ever said it was a failure. According to SC (since I haven't seen an original, myself) it broke rules. It could be the Mona Lisa and end up disqualified if it broke editing rules. (He used a brush in basic editing. Hah!)

To quote one of my favorite movies: "This isn't Nam, Donnie, there are rules!" It's a great photo - I quite like it, but that doesn't mean it deserves to retain its ribbon. Do Olympic atheletes get to keep their golds if its discovered they juiced? No. Professional sports? Oh, yeah, they get to keep their rings.

I'm sorry - but to me this will never be a candid photo. To me candid means something you can not arrange or stage and something you can not reshoot. This ca easily be arranged and you can reshoot it as many times as you want.
Nice photo though - but not for this challenge.

I've made this a favorite. Sincerely sorry to hear about the DQ. According to the current forum thread on this subject, it was not a unanimous decision. I hope you don't let it sour your feelings about DPC.

Still a great image, really powerful.

Sometimes the rules are somewhat up for interpretation so it would be interesting to see what was changed so we all know what not to do.

This is EXACTLY why I did NOT renew my membership at DPC.
Not because of editing or if a pixel is out of place, but there are just too many Anal Annies running around here for me.
This photo is a beautlful moment captured and from the comments left, it struck a chord in most folks too.
Lighten UP around this place and you'll get more members.
