Four Conedby neophyteComment by Neuferland: Oooooo, look at the pretty colors! :)
Greetings from the Critique Club! I remember seeing this shot in the thumbnails, didn't get a chance to vote, but it did catch my eye in the quick review. I'm suprised this didn't score higher! The contrast is there without a doubt. I'm guessing the only problem I can really see with the shot is the lack of detail on the top two cones compared to the bottom two. The tops of the cones become blurred almost, you lose that circle that is so well defined in the lower cones. Also the lighting is a bit unbalance, there are more reflections on the top than the bottom, dealing with natural lighting can be so much fun sometimes, no? ;) Maybe if you could redo this with more balanced lighting to create equal reflections on all the cones.
Sorry I couldn't offer more suggestions but this is a very good shot and I would have given it an 8 or 9 if I had time to vote then. :)
But I love the optical illusion that it creates, you should consider setting this up for a print!

Guarding the Bootsby neophyteComment by smilebig4me1x: *Critique Club Comment*
First Impression of this photo is this is a cute pet portrait. Composition wise i think the crop is a bit too tight across the back as you have cut the dogs tail off. I like that the dogs eyes are looking up at me. But the dog seems to be competing with the boots for attention.
Your choice of background was a good for the neutral color but i think a more canvas type of material would have been a better choice for this type of shot because the material is stiffer and less likely for the dog to move easily, even on a truck bed. also less likely for the edge of your BG to slide down into your photo like it did here in the upper right of the photo. The B&W for this was an excellent choice. lighting is good to me. looks like you might have made a "light tent" over the truck. Excellent job here.the slightly blown highlights might be from the contrast/brightness processing. great focus on the boots but a bigger DOF would have made both the boots and the dogs eyes in perfect focus. only two other nit picks for this is make sure your subjects face(sleep below the dogs left eye) and paws(dirty paw print on bottom right of photo) are clean as these can be a distraction too.
If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system. thanks~~Cher~~:o) |

Ready to Rollby neophyteComment by Tammer: For me, the lighting is a bit too bright, and I wish I could see more of the...uniform? I like the sky background. |
