First and Oscar for your daughter's stellar performance and a well-earned 4th place in the challenge for her father!!

Meeting the challenge: Excellent

Composition: Very well done with the eyes in just the right position. The angle of this shot ads some depth and impact to the photo. Capturing the body language as well as the facial expression also adds to the meaning and impact. All very well done.

Technical quality: This would have been a shot if spot editing could be done that the eye on the left could be a bit darkened, as it almost looks like they are two different colors, but obviously you stuck to the rules. The muted shadow is nice, and I for one did not mind the lack of extreme contrast...don't think it's always necessary especially with the soft focus. JMHO. The border works well and no post-processing errors noted. Your dof works well in the shot. Very good quality for the shutter speed.

Creativity: This is a great shot, and did not need a lot of originality to be good. I don't know how you could have pulled this off with increased creativity and wouldn't have subtracted a score on this issue.

Overall: A very nice photo, and in my opinion wouldn't change anything but the eye shade in a printable edition of the photo. Sorry I couldn't add anything else really new to what others have said.

Hello from the critique club!
hi DougPaz!

This is one of the stunning sky shots :) I like it. Unlike some of the comments you received, I like the stark and bright light. I am one who loves the architecture of buildings. I wish you had shown me more of this building. I particularly love anything that looks like a church; don't ask me why, but architects always seem to take more time to be creative with church like buildings. This reminds me of a church building. Did it used to be a church?

I think your choice of aperture setting was great, although it removes the depth from the photo, and it makes it look really flat. I think that's mainly because there are almost no shadows... except for the one which is obvious directly in front. Did you try a shot from the right hand side of the building? or maybe if you'd have gotten more of the building (downward) in the shot, it would have given more actual visual depth to the shot.

I like the colours, the choice of your subject, and I think it goes well with the challenge. Your shots are usually well thought out and you know what you're doing :)
Good luck in future challenges!

Nice color of yellow when the light hits it, shows nice on the green also. Good focus, the light gives good shadow also.

This could be a very good image, but it's lacking a strong focus point. You had a very good idea though.

Interesting that you chose to make the background sunset focused and left the stained glass out of focus. I have struggled with this same dilema when you must choose one or the other. There is no absolute rule, but for me I decide what is the main subject and make sure it is in focus.

Comment by Maverick:
While the focus on the trees in the background is probably intentional, I think I'd prefer the focus on the glass - its the focus of the symmetry. - 5 - Mav

Comment by StevePax:
While I like the focus on the trees outside, my eyes are drawn to the window by the framing lines of the window itself. I wonder if a deeper DOF could have been used to focus the window at least a little bit more?
