I think textures can really heighten the impact of a shot, especially shots of mundane surroundings; where we might otherwise go on autopilot when we view images of the mundane, the texture prompts us look more deeply. If we routinely pick frames and mattes to best present our printed images, we should be able to add textures to bring the best out in them too.

Texture here seems to add just the right touch of further depth to the tones, and I like how the border at the bottom tricks you into thinking you are seeing a crashing wave.

Now I like the effect you have created here - the eye is drawn very nicely onto the main cluster of boats on the right, and the 'distressed edges to the picture help to give it a bit of age and faux authenticity.

The other shot is very nicely captured - but I think pictorially this one is stronger.

What a cute little guy !

The muted colours work really well here, and in a way he gives the whole shot a sense of scale.

It might have been good to have got right down to his level and then viewed the carousel from his perspective ? Try and see what this huge whirling brightly coloured thing with slightly grotesque animals on it looks like from a two year old's point of view ?

That said he looks happy enough :- )

Now that is one crazy effect with beams of light seeming to come out of his eyes and the carousel for a hat, along with the manequin standing blankly observing the whole scene.

This may have done very well for abstract emotion (or not of course), but the more you look at it and take it in the more it grows on you.

Really interesting shot and effects.
