This is a great photo "a la maniere de" Pissarro, Sisley, early Monet. Would it be even more "soothing" with a little blur of the trees and little houses?
The water has this oily quality so hard to capture.

I love the back lighting and the grain. Great colors, and the lens flare gives it an arty feel. I can see this in one of those cook books that's half recipes and half photographs.

At first glance I thought the figure was standing still, and the photo had a profound effect on me. On looking more closely I see that the figure is actually walking across the 'wasteland' and the image loses some of its power. The photo that I want to see (with the figure standing stock still staring out of the back of the photo) is, perhaps, a statement about myself - a desire for the world to leave me alone, and yet at the same time an acknowledgment that such a solitary life would be intensely lonely to the point of pain. Not often a photo can provoke such strong feelings within me, even if they are based partly on the first impression rather than the reality.

marnet brings up an interesting idea of 'an expression' of reality. That is something I want to think about more.
