Shortcut Through the Gorgeby RanklesComment by Rankles: Originally posted by Barroness: I keep going back to your image. It is beyond beautiful and special. There are so many beautiful effects and colors in this image. This image is stunningly beautiful. I love the crop if it is cropped, you covered the water fall and the depth of the bridge. My favorite of the challenge by far. |
Thank you! It really looked incredible and whilst it was a difficult capture I'm really happy with how it turned out. It was very close to a ribbon and even though it didn't quite make it it's one of my most magical photos that I'm very proud of. Thank you!

your have a great writing style btw ...
congratulations on getting out of your comfort zone and getting an excellent photo to boot ..
and of course 4th place .. :)
ps .. I love knowing the origins of sayings .. and to boot was screaming out to be googled ..
"The saying âto bootâ comes from an Old English word bot, meaning âadvantageâ or âremedy.â It's related to the contemporary English words better and best, so if something's âto boot,â it's added or extra." |
Thank you Roz! And thanks for the trivia :D I'll have to remember that as I'm an English teacher and those kind of questions come up all the time and I never know the answers. |

The Edge of the Earthby RanklesComment by primabarbara: Lovely scene! The water seems to come from nowhere and disappears into nowhere...
Very good picture for a dpc comeback - welcome!
But I didn't find the otter face... :-( |

Time for Reflectionby RanklesComment by primabarbara: Lovely take on the distance theme, Anthony! I also love the reflection of the mountains.
And thank you for sharing the story and the thoughts about the "right" gear. Ins't there a saying, that a talented photographer can make interesting pictures with any camera whereas the best gear doesn't help if the photographer is not qualified? |

Time for Reflectionby RanklesComment by mariuca: It was 8 from me and forgot to revisit my scores or it would have been 9.
I would have never guessed that it's Italy - never made it North of Milano - but took the marvelous train several times from Switzerland. Magical |

Stillness by RanklesComment by mariuca: I loved your picture and didn't care for the centered fisherman - au contraire! Ho seems to be attracted, more like magnetized to this unknown, mysterious point. Brava! |

Stillness by RanklesComment by vawendy: Forgot to vote on this one. This is such a gorgeous scene, but I don't think the center placement does this one justice, imo. There's such gorgeous leading lines in the snow on the hill and it's reflection -- even though it's not really leading to anything in particular, it still really wants to help the eye roam around the scene. But with the subject centered, it's as if the eye just stops it's journey. Here's the subject, no need to explore further. I'm not explaining it well, but I was trying to dig deeper as to why this one didn't hit me right, and that's what I discovered. |
